The curriculum at Gao's Kung Fu Academy is geared towards the mastery of several different styles of traditional kung fu. Although competition wushu styles are touched upon, such as Changquan, the focus is mainly on the development of traditional styles such as Bajiquan, Tongbeiquan, Piquaquan, and Fanziquan. Students practice basic hand forms and coordination routines in preparation for more subtle and advanced techniques and styles. In addition to the above mentioned styles, Hsing Yi Quan, Baguahang, Taijiquan, Tiger fist, Snake fist, and Shaanxi Cannon fist are all studied, as well as numerous long and short weapons routines. Students develop flexibility, speed, coordination, and finally power, and are the encouraged to express these qualities through the medium of the different fighting styles, each incorporating unique movement philosophies. It is the exploration and study of these unique movement philosophies that further expand the mind and abilities of the practitioner beyond the usual repetition of basic movements. |
